The Guides ◆ Kingshot ◆ Heroes
Hero Guide
Heroes are the most impactful system in Kingshot. Three heroes lead every march — and the difference between a good hero and a bad one is not small.
How the Hero System Works
Every march you send out requires exactly three heroes: one Infantry hero, one Cavalry hero, and one Archer hero. Each hero leads their respective troop type and applies their skills to the entire army during battle. Your heroes determine far more than your troop count does.
Heroes come in three quality tiers — Blue, Purple, and Gold. Gold heroes are dramatically more powerful. Within Gold heroes, they're sorted into generations (Gen 1 through Gen 6 as of 2026), with higher generations generally having stronger base kits.
You acquire Gold heroes through Hero Roulette using gems. This is why gems are sacred — save every gem for hero pulls until you have your three core heroes fully starred up.
Hero Roles
Heroes have two roles that matter strategically:
| Role | What it means |
|---|---|
| Rally / Attack | Best for leading marches and rally attacks. High damage output, aggressive skills. |
| Garrison / Defense | Best for defending your city when you're offline. Damage reduction and sustain skills. |
| Joiner | Heroes that perform best when joining an ally's rally rather than leading one. Stacking multiples of a joiner hero dramatically multiplies their skill effect. |
Hero Tier List (Gen 1–6)
Ratings are for Rally / Attack use unless noted. Meta shifts with each generation release — use this as a guide, not a law.
🛡️ Infantry Heroes
| Hero | Gen | Tier | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Triton | Gen 6 | S | Invulnerability skill (Tidewill) absorbs burst damage. Regal Wrath buffs Attack & Defense. Best-in-slot infantry. |
| Long Fei | Gen 5 | A | Ambrosia grants 120% Attack Speed and control immunity for 4s. Durable sustain kit with 60% damage reduction below 50% HP. |
| Amadeus | Gen 1 | A | Excellent damage ceiling for spenders. Combo Slash triple-hit is among the highest infantry burst in Gen 1. |
| Alcar | Gen 4 | B+ | Glorious Mark invulnerability + 70% squad damage reduction. Strong garrison tank; solid mid-game rally lead. |
| Zoe | Gen 2 | B+ | Best F2P infantry option for Bear Hunt. Agony Rush self-heal triggers on the bear's frontal burst. |
| Eric | Gen 3 | B | Paladin-style tank with Ground Shock (50% Attack Speed debuff). Best defensive infantry Gen 3 and below. |
| Helga | Gen 1 | B | First-purchase reward. Functional early infantry lead; Echoes of Valhalla gives 25% army-wide Attack. |
🐴 Cavalry Heroes
| Hero | Gen | Tier | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sophia | Gen 6 | S | Terror mechanic grants 75% army-wide damage bonus vs Terrified enemies. Scalding Mark amplifier stacks with every skill cast. |
| Thrud | Gen 5 | S | Ancestral Guidance cycles damage dealt +25% / taken −25% for all squads. Premier joiner — multiple copies stack dramatically. |
| Petra | Gen 3 | A | High-ceiling RNG damage via Change of Fate (5–600% variable). Evil Eye applies 50% damage amplifier to targets. |
| Margot | Gen 4 | B+ | Parry (25% dodge) + Stiletto immobilize. Slippery Gen 4 cavalry lead while saving for Sophia or Thrud. |
| Hilde | Gen 2 | B+ | Only dedicated healer in the Legendary roster. Rejuvenating Plea restores Attack × 280% HP to all friendlies. Excellent for long garrison fights. |
| Jabel | Gen 1 | B | Default starting cavalry. Gallant Throw pierce-and-pin is reliable early. Youthful Rage gives 25% army damage. Replace at Gen 3+. |
🏹 Archer Heroes
| Hero | Gen | Tier | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yang | Gen 6 | S | Kin Throw deals damage on both forward and return paths. 15% innate Crit Rate. Best-in-slot archer for high-level play. |
| Vivian | Gen 5 | S | Crouching Tiger permanently increases all enemy damage taken by 25%. Amplifies every troop type — not just archers. Essential mid-game upgrade. |
| Rosa | Gen 4 | A | Battle Focus clears all debuffs and grants 5s immunity — hard counter to Petra, Sophia, and Hilde compositions. |
| Jaeger | Gen 3 | B | Fatal Attraction is one of the longest AoE stuns in the game (2s). Sound of Silence (exclusive) can silence enemy heroes for 5s. |
| Marlin | Gen 2 | B+ | Tidal Rush AoE immobilize + Lucky Hit stun. Reliable control archer before Rosa or Vivian unlock. |
| Saul | Gen 1 | B | Only combat hero with construction bonuses (15% Speed, 15% cost reduction). Useful on city-build marches even after being replaced as a combat lead. |
Who to Invest In — By Spend Level
Free to Play (F2P)
Focus your gems on pulling and maxing Chenko (Infantry), Amane (Archer), and Gordon or Yeonwoo (Cavalry). These are accessible Gen 1–2 heroes that will carry you through mid-game. Zoe is a solid F2P infantry option specifically for Bear Hunt events.
Don't spread your shards across six heroes trying to have "options." Three fully starred heroes beat six half-invested ones every time.
Low Spender ($10–50/month)
Same core three as F2P, but you can target Vivian (Archer, Gen 5) as your primary upgrade goal. Vivian's 25% army-wide damage amplification makes her worth every gem spent. After Vivian, target Thrud (Cavalry, Gen 5).
Competitive / Higher Spend
Target Gen 6: Triton (Infantry) and Yang (Archer) are best-in-slot at the top end. Pair with Thrud (Cavalry) for a well-rounded composition that dominates both rally and garrison.
Best Hero Party Compositions
Every march needs one Infantry, one Cavalry, and one Archer hero. The right combination depends entirely on what you're doing — the trio that wins KvK rallies is different from the one that maximises Bear Hunt score or holds your city while you sleep.
⚔️ KvK Rally Lead — Endgame Meta
| Slot | Hero | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Infantry | Triton | Tidewill invulnerability absorbs the opening burst that kills infantry stacks. Regal Wrath adds +24% Attack for the whole army. |
| Cavalry | Thrud | Ancestral Guidance cycles +25% damage dealt / −25% damage taken for all squads on a short cooldown. Best support multiplier in the game. |
| Archer | Yang | Kin Throw fires twice (out and back) and his 15% base Crit Rate gives every march a real chance at massive crits. Best-in-slot raw DPS. |
⚔️ KvK Rally Lead — Mid-Game / F2P Path
| Slot | Hero | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Infantry | Long Fei | Ambrosia gives 120% Attack Speed and control immunity for 4s — survives long enough to deal damage even against Gen 6 defenders. |
| Cavalry | Thrud | The single highest-priority upgrade for F2P players. Get Thrud before any Gen 6 hero. |
| Archer | Vivian | Crouching Tiger permanently amplifies all enemy damage taken by 25% — benefits your infantry and cavalry equally, not just archers. |
🐻 Bear Hunt — Score Maximiser
| Slot | Hero | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Infantry | Zoe | Passive Bear Hunt damage bonus (Gen 2 exclusive). Agony Rush self-heal reduces troop casualties, letting you send more marches before needing to heal. |
| Cavalry | Thrud or Hilde | Thrud for damage output. Hilde if you want her Rejuvenating Plea healing to recover your infantry between marches. |
| Archer | Any Blue (Rare) hero | Blue heroes apply a significant score multiplier in Bear Hunt. A Blue archer in this slot outscores a Gold Legendary specifically for points — fill this slot with your best Blue hero, not your best Gold. |
🏰 Garrison Defense (City While Offline)
| Slot | Hero | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Infantry | Triton or Alcar | Triton's Tidewill invulnerability window is just as effective defending as it is attacking. Alcar's Glorious Mark + 70% squad damage reduction is a strong garrison alternative if you don't have Triton. |
| Cavalry | Hilde | Rejuvenating Plea heals Attack × 280% HP to all friendlies — critical for drawn-out garrison fights where your troops need to last through multiple attack waves. |
| Archer | Rosa or Vivian | Rosa's Battle Focus clears all debuffs and grants 5s immunity — a hard counter to Sophia's Terror and Petra's Change of Fate that most attackers use. Vivian if you need raw damage amplification instead. |
🗿 Ruins Battles
| Slot | Hero | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Infantry | Long Fei or Triton | Control immunity from Long Fei is valuable in Ruins where enemy mechanics frequently stun. Triton if you need raw durability. |
| Cavalry | Sophia or Thrud | Sophia's Terror (75% damage bonus to Terrified enemies) is extremely effective against the AI-controlled Ruins defenders. Thrud for consistent cycling bonus. |
| Archer | Vivian | The 25% enemy damage-taken amplifier from Crouching Tiger works against Ruins bosses and scales with your entire army, not just archer squads. |
👥 Rally Joiner Composition
When joining an ally's rally (not leading), your hero skills still fire — and joiner heroes with stacking passives become dramatically more powerful in numbers.
| Slot | Hero | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Infantry | Triton or Long Fei | Triton's Tidewill protects your march mid-rally. Long Fei's attack speed buff keeps your infantry contributing damage throughout the fight. |
| Cavalry | Thrud (multiple copies ideal) | Thrud is the best joiner in the game. Each additional copy of Thrud joining a rally stacks another independent Ancestral Guidance cycle. Two Thruds in a rally doubles the cycling bonus — coordinate with alliance members who also have Thrud. |
| Archer | Vivian | Crouching Tiger's enemy damage amplification benefits the entire rally, not just your march. Every joiner with Vivian makes the whole rally hit harder. |
Key Hero Synergies
Some hero combinations produce results far beyond their individual ratings. These are the pairings worth building toward.
Yang + Vivian — The Crit Amplifier
Yang's 15% base Crit Rate means crits land frequently. Vivian's Crouching Tiger increases all enemy damage taken by 25% on top of every crit. These two together produce the highest sustained DPS output in the current meta — Yang deals the crits, Vivian makes every one of them hit harder. This combination is worth building even before you have Triton or Thrud.
Sophia + Thrud — Terror Into Damage Cycle
Sophia's Terror mechanic grants 75% army-wide damage bonus to Terrified enemies. Thrud's Ancestral Guidance then cycles +25% damage dealt for all squads on top of this. The result: once Sophia lands Terror, your whole army is dealing base damage × 1.75 × 1.25, before any other multipliers. This is a PvP composition specifically — Terror doesn't apply to Bear Hunt or Ruins.
Triton + Hilde — Survive and Sustain
Triton's Tidewill invulnerability window prevents the opening burst from killing your infantry stack. Hilde's Rejuvenating Plea then heals all units between waves. This pair defines the defensive garrison meta — attackers burn through their strongest skills in Triton's invulnerability window and then face a partially-healed army on the second pass.
Rosa — The Counter Pick
Rosa's Battle Focus clears all debuffs and grants full immunity for 5 seconds. This directly counters Sophia's Terror (can't apply its 75% damage bonus to immune troops), Petra's Change of Fate damage amplifier, and Hilde's Rejuvenating Plea (it doesn't benefit Terrified or debuffed units). If you know the enemy is running a Sophia or Petra lead, swapping Vivian for Rosa in your garrison neutralises their primary win condition.
Skill Investment Priority (S & A Tier)
Hero Skill Tomes are limited. Unlock these skills first — in order — before spending tomes on anything else for each hero.
| Hero | Skill Priority Order | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Triton | Tidewill → Regal Wrath → Striking Hit | Tidewill is the entire reason to use Triton — unlock it first. Regal Wrath adds the attack/defense buff. Striking Hit is secondary DPS filler. |
| Yang | Kin Throw → Piercing Light → Wild Instinct | Kin Throw (fires twice) is Yang's identity skill. Unlock it immediately. Crit-related skills follow. |
| Vivian | Crouching Tiger → Hunting Instinct → Arrow Rain | Crouching Tiger applies the 25% enemy damage amplifier — the entire reason to use Vivian. Everything else is secondary. |
| Thrud | Ancestral Guidance → Vanguard Rush → Iron Will | Ancestral Guidance is the cycling damage/defense buff that makes Thrud exceptional. Prioritise it above expedition skills early on. |
| Sophia | Puppet Master → Terror — Annihilation → Scalding Mark | Puppet Master applies the Terror status. Terror — Annihilation unlocks the 75% damage bonus to Terrified enemies. Get both before anything else. |
| Long Fei | Ambrosia → Iron Stance → Dragon's Blood | Ambrosia's Attack Speed + control immunity is Long Fei's defining skill. Iron Stance provides the damage reduction below 50% HP that keeps him alive. |
| Petra | Evil Eye → Change of Fate → Dust Devil | Evil Eye's 50% damage amplifier stacks with Change of Fate's variable burst. Unlock Evil Eye first so that the RNG spikes hit amplified targets. |
| Rosa | Battle Focus → Precise Shot → Deadly Aim | Battle Focus is Rosa's entire value as a counter-pick hero. If you're using Rosa, you're using her for immunity — unlock it immediately. |
| Zoe (Bear Hunt) | Agony Rush → Blazing Spirit → Fury Strike | Agony Rush self-heal lets Zoe survive bear frontal damage longer, enabling more marches per event window. The passive Bear Hunt bonus is innate — no skill unlock needed. |
Leveling Your Heroes
Hero EXP comes primarily from daily missions, alliance donations, and using EXP items. The same rule applies here — focus your EXP items on your three core heroes. Don't spread.
Hero Skill Tomes unlock and upgrade hero skills. Prioritize the skills that buff your troop type first (the hero's matching troop type gets the biggest multiplier), then expedition skills for your gathering march.
For expedition skills early on, focus on heroes that boost your most-needed resource gathering. Your farm account heroes should max out expedition gathering skills before combat skills.
