Governor Charms Guide
Governor Charms are one of the most underrated power systems in Kingshot — fully F2P, no RNG, and they provide stat bonuses that stack on top of everything else. Players who ignore them plateau. Players who work them consistently pull ahead.
What Are Governor Charms?
Governor Charms are account-wide stat bonuses equipped on your Governor screen, unlocked at Town Center level 25. Unlike hero gear (which buffs a single march) or research (slow and broad), Charms apply to every army you send — every march, every battle, all the time.
While your equipment focuses on Attack and Defense, Charms boost Lethality and Health — the two stats that determine how hard your troops hit before dying and how long they survive. The systems are complementary, not redundant.
Charms are completely F2P-friendly. Materials drop from daily events, Alliance Shop purchases, and Crystal Cave raids with no RNG gates or premium-only components. Spenders progress faster, but every material is farmable.
The 8 Charm Types
There are eight charm slots, organized by troop type. Each charm provides a primary and secondary stat bonus. The two All Troop charms are the most efficient per slot — their bonuses apply regardless of which troop type leads your march.
| Charm | Troop Type | Primary Stat | Secondary Stat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Valor | Infantry | Infantry ATK | Infantry DEF |
| Bastion | Infantry | Infantry HP | Infantry DEF |
| Precision | Archer | Archer ATK | Archer Lethality |
| Marksman | Archer | Archer HP | Archer DEF |
| Gallop | Cavalry | Cavalry ATK | Cavalry Speed |
| Stallion | Cavalry | Cavalry HP | Cavalry DEF |
| Guardian | All Troops | All Troop HP | — |
| Warlord | All Troops | All Troop ATK | — |
The Three Progression Layers
Each charm has three independent upgrade systems that multiply together. Neglecting any one layer caps your total output — treat all three as parallel investments, not a sequence.
Layer 1 — Charm Level
The base multiplier. Upgraded using Charm Guides (early) and Charm Designs (mid–late), with Mythic Shards required at the highest tiers. Level is your primary investment — it sets the ceiling for the other two layers.
Layer 2 — Charm Design
Unlocks specific stat bonuses for each charm slot using Design blueprints. Different design paths unlock different secondary stats — the choice matters most for your primary troop type. For Crystal Cave, prioritize Guardian and Bastion designs first.
Layer 3 — Charm Enhancement
Increases the effectiveness of your active Design bonuses. Think of it as upgrading the upgrade — once your Design is set, Enhancement turns up the volume on it. Don't neglect this layer just because it's less visible than Level.
Level Efficiency & Where to Stop
Charm upgrades follow sharply diminishing returns. Knowing where the value drops off is what separates efficient players from ones who burn materials on marginal gains.
| Level Range | Cost | Value | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–5 | Low | Very High | Always do this immediately |
| 5–10 | Moderate | Good | F2P sweet spot — priority target |
| 10–15 | Higher | Moderate | Worth it once all charms hit 10 |
| 15–20 | High | Diminishing | Spenders or end-game only |
| 20–25 | Very High | Minimal | Only after everything else is maxed |
The F2P rule: Get every charm to level 10 before pushing any single charm past 10. The per-material gain of taking a level-7 charm to level 8 beats taking a level-14 charm to level 15 by a significant margin.
Upgrade Priority Order
Step 1 — Unlock All Charm Slots
Unlock every free charm slot as soon as you hit Town Center 25. Unequipped slots contribute nothing. This costs minimal materials and should be done before any leveling.
Step 2 — All Charms to Level 5
Level 1–5 is the best cost-to-gain ratio in the entire system. Don't skip any charm type — even Cavalry charms at level 5 contribute more per material spent than pushing your Infantry charms from 8 to 9.
Step 3 — Infantry First, Then Archer, Then Cavalry
Once everything is at 5, push by troop type. Infantry (Valor + Bastion) first — infantry absorb the most hits in both attacks and defenses, so HP and DEF bonuses here directly reduce your casualty rate. Archer (Precision + Marksman) second — they deal the most damage per troop. Cavalry (Gallop + Stallion) third.
Step 4 — Prioritize All-Troop Charms (Guardian & Warlord)
Guardian (All HP) and Warlord (All ATK) benefit every march you send regardless of composition. Push these in parallel with your troop-specific charms — their broad applicability makes each level more valuable than an equivalent level in a single-type charm.
Step 5 — All Charms to Level 10
The final F2P milestone. Level 10 across all charms is a meaningful combat power threshold. Only push individual charms past 10 once everything has reached this floor.
Material Sources
All charm materials are farmable without spending real money. Consistent daily play accumulates them faster than most players expect.
| Material | Used For | Primary Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Charm Guides | Early level upgrades (1–10) | Daily events, Alliance Shop, Crystal Cave |
| Charm Designs | Mid–late level upgrades (10+) | Crystal Cave raids, event milestones, weekly rewards |
| Mythic Shards | High-level upgrades (20+) | Golden Chests, top-tier event rewards |
| Design Blueprints | Unlocking Design layer bonuses | Crystal Cave, Alliance Shop, event rewards |
Crystal Cave: Your Main Charm Farm
Crystal Cave is the primary repeatable source of Charm Designs and Design Blueprints. It's an alliance-based activity — your alliance unlocks raid tiers collectively, and every participating member benefits from the drops.
Inside Crystal Cave, prioritize Guardian (All HP) and Bastion (Infantry HP + DEF) designs first — both provide immediate defensive value regardless of what content you're running. Once those designs are established, expand to your primary damage type.
Participate in every Crystal Cave your alliance runs. Missing raids is missed materials with no way to recover them — unlike construction or research, there's no speed-up equivalent to make up lost Crystal Cave time.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Pushing one charm deep while others sit at level 1 — the gain from a level-20 single charm is smaller than having all 8 at level 10
- Ignoring Design and Enhancement layers — Charm Level alone doesn't unlock full value; all three layers multiply together
- Skipping Crystal Cave — it's the only repeatable source of Design materials; missed raids don't come back
- Confusing Charm Gems with equipment Dragon Gems — Dragon Gems socket into your gear slots and are a separate system entirely
- Waiting until late game to start — unlock all charm slots the day you hit Town Center 25; every day without them is a day of missed passive gains
