Oblivion Remastered Hits Switch 2 — And We Finally Wrote the Guides You've Been Asking For

It's been a year and a half since we last did a full check-in on Oblivion Remastered. The short version of what's happened since: not much on PC or console, and a real launch on a new platform.

The Patch Drought Is Real

PC, PS5, and Xbox players haven't seen a patch since Update 1.2 in July 2025 — over a year of silence. Bethesda has publicly acknowledged the complaints and said Switch 2 optimizations "will be brought to other platforms," but as of this writing there's no confirmed date or platform list beyond that. If you've been waiting for a specific bug fix on PC, there's no news to report — it's still pending.

Switch 2 Got Its Own Launch, and Its Own Patches

Oblivion Remastered launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 11, 2026, and — notably — it's already getting more attention than the older platforms. A day-one patch shipped, followed by Update 1.1 on September 17–18, which fixed eight distinct crash bugs (including issues at the Altar of Enchanting/Spellmaking, the map screen, and third-person camera), a random item-equip bug during the "Umaril the Unfeathered" quest, and — worth flagging if you're a completionist — patched the Temple of the One escape exploit during "Imperial Dragon Armor." That fix is confirmed for Switch 2 only so far; whether it's coming to PC/PS5/Xbox isn't confirmed.

If you're picking up the game for the first time, Switch 2 is currently the best-supported version by patch cadence, even if PC remains the definitive experience for mods and visual fidelity.

The Real News: Two New Guides

Here's what we actually spent the quiet window on. Despite Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles being core, evergreen content included in the remaster from day one, we'd never written full walkthroughs for either — an oversight given how much guide traffic we get for the base game's builds and spellmaking content.

• Knights of the Nine — the full quest order, exactly where to find all 9 Crusader's Relics, and the two-phase fight against Umaril the Unfeathered (his physical form, then his spirit form in the sky above the Imperial City).
• Shivering Isles — how to reach New Sheoth, the Mania/Dementia court split, the full 14-quest main storyline, and a correction to a common misconception: the real branching choice is the Ritual of Accession (Mania vs. Dementia), not the ending. There's only one ending in the base expansion, and we walk through exactly what triggers it.

If you've finished the main quest and are wondering what to do next, both of these are excellent next steps regardless of which platform you're on.

Should You Play Now?

If you're new to Oblivion Remastered: yes, and Switch 2 is a legitimate way in if you want portability and the most actively patched version right now. If you're a returning PC/console player waiting on a specific fix: the wait continues, with no firm date. Either way, the two new guides above cover content that's been sitting unexplained in the game since April 2025 — worth a look even if you played through both expansions back in 2006 and remember them differently than they actually work.
